'Sugar rush' was inspired by the lovely, chattering flocks of musk lorikeets that visit our neighbourhood seasonally to feed on the abundant Spotted Gum blossoms when they're in flower. I was fortunate one late afternoon to observe this particular bird methodically working his way through clusters of blossoms in some lower branches, allowing a good view of his dynamic poses. 
 
This piece was a Finalist in the 2025 Holmes Prize for Excellence in Realistic Australian Bird Art.
