I still remember collecting this specimen when I was at uni doing a subject on scientific illustration. I was walking through a fairly ordinary, run down piece of scrub and wandered over to a few large wattle shrubs. The insects I found on the same shrub truly amazed me, but this longicorn beetle was by far the most beautiful specimen captured. The painting was rendered by carefully observing the beetle under a microscope, a stunning critter with golden hairs on its underside and long, hairy antennae. It now lives on in my modest insect collection, and in this painting!
