This small scratchboard work was inspired by a photo taken by Michael Murray, a wonderful ecologist that I occasionally work with in my day job. He took it on a rock ledge that overlooks a tall gum, which has a large wedge-tailed eagle nest perched in its uppermost branches. This wedgie chick was peeking over the nest peering at him intently. I loved the out-of-control fuzz of this baby bird and knew it would look really effective in scratchboard.
